Within the scope of the WeRIn– Woman Entrepreneurs in Regional Inclusive Ecosystems Project, of ITU GINOVA, regional scans were completed by the project partner universities.
Scans that present the current situation regarding the inclusiveness of entrepreneurship support programs have been prepared for Turkey, Germany, Croatia, the Netherlands and Ireland. Turkey report edited by Prof. Dr. Şebnem Burnaz, Dr. Zeynep Erden Bayazıt and Beril Gül.
In the next phases of the WeRIn project, the focus will be on efforts to increase inclusiveness in entrepreneurship education in the light of regional scans.
About the WeRIn Project
The WeRIn – Woman Entrepreneurs in Regional Inclusive Ecosystems Project aims to increase inclusiveness in training and support programs in order to increase the proportion of female graduates in the entrepreneurship ecosystem and ensure their greater involvement in regional ecosystems across Europe. The project is coordinated by the Münster University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
In the Turkey report, besides the difficulties arising from structural inefficiencies in entrepreneurship, which is a young ecosystem compared to other countries, financing problems and access to investment stand out as the most emphasized problems. In the field studies conducted with women, it has been observed that the gendered approach is not clearly put forward as a problem, but there are strong stereotypes for entrepreneurs in the ecosystem. It has been seen that the character traits attributed to men in the literature such as courage, determination, risk taking and endurance, which are especially matched with the characteristics that an entrepreneur should have, are widely emphasized.
In addition, it was stated that women entrepreneurs working in male-dominated industries faced more difficulties in proving their technical knowledge than women working in female-dominated industries. This situation leads women to use their education infrastructure or market knowledge to prove their competencies and to hold on in the sector in this way. The existence of technoparks, incubation centers or public support and grant programs in the field of technology has been observed as a major driving force for the women entrepreneurs ecosystem.
